The greatest invention of all times

Nov 19
2009

The studio computer went bad on me tonight, with only one mix to got. So I just let it rest until tomorrow. Maybe it’s in better mood then.
For want of better things to do I dreamt up a new invention. The greatest invention of all times. The grand unified most fabulous Love-o-Meter. Sort of like a metal detector only that it measures the amount of love floating around. Only two controls, a sensitivity dial for trimming to your current needs and mood, and then a three way selector for close, mid and far detection, letting you specify how far away you want love detected or not.

Well, wouldn’t you want one!

And it would probably sell much better than music.

A weekend treat

Nov 13
2009

tda10

At last! The mix of Emotional is finished. As I think as said somewhere before we are not looking for perfection but everything should be perfect. And it is perfect now.
It is really the first song we stared collaborating on and initial recordings started in January. A lot of time and effort, I promise,
but I think the result justifies it.
It’s written by Helena and I think it’s an exceptional song. And it stands for everything I think The Broken Assembly should stand for.

So here it is as a Friday treat (fredagsmys we would say in Swedish). Available for the next week.
Listen, download and make up your own mind (and let us know what you think by commenting here)

One of those mornings…

Oct 24
2009

Woke up one of these mornings, lacking of sleep as usual, and slightly disoriented (who was I, where was I, did I have a name and so on?), still dark outside. And with all my nerve ends on the outside of my skin.
And as I slowly remembered where I was and who I was my body silently started to scream, “Please, please, please. Love me! In spite of everything else, of who I am”.
One of those mornings when all I needed to know was that I’m loved.
Is that to much to ask?

And what has this to do with music you might ask? Maybe not much, or maybe a lot. Perhaps songs are just like that. Slowly waking up from some subconscious part of my brain, just wanted to be loved for what they are, not what they’re not. Not being perfect, still demanding my attention and my unconditional love. Impossible to resist!

As I said, one of those mornings… and one of those songs…

Working on Miles In The Rain

Oct 20
2009

A few clips from last Sunday studio session (and a peek of how Miles In The Rain will sound).
The guitar was almost impossible to tune for the final slide takes on Miles In The Rain and Lasse persuaded Helena into making another set of vocal takes. It can always get better and it did!
And finally we got to start the mixing.
We can’t wait to get this out as soon it’s finished. Until then this little video has to do.

Sunday in the studio

Oct 08
2009

It was Sunday, it was the day of the cinnamon bun, and it was studio day for us.
Doing some preparations for the upcoming mix on Emotional and tracking the final vocals on Come Toghether.

And a lot of buns. Sweet!

It’s all coming together… A new preview

Oct 05
2009

We went back into the studio yesterday and did some polishing on Emotional and Miles In The Rain. And a new stab at the vocals on Come Together.
And how it came together. I think Helena did her best takes ever under the Broken Assembly flag.
She really put a shine on that song.
Just had to share it with you. So for a limited time (I’ll take it down when I start to work on the final mix), here is a preview of Come Together.

Enjoy!

Songs are set for the EP

Sep 28
2009

Just a short update on the upcoming EP.
It’s now decided that it will include four songs:

- Emotional (my personal favourite). Some sort of strange mix of different styles. Velvet Underground meats Puccini in some dark post-indie setting. Written by Helena.

- Miles In The Rain. Also written by Helena. A beautiful slow, close to country blues.

- If I Never. No description needed. Just listen to the preview instead in the sidebar. Put togheter by me.

- Come Together. A bad dream maybe, or just one of those mornings?

Come Together is the newest song and just squeezed itself into the EP. We had another one but we had to take it out for very, very, very secret reasons.

And do I need to say they all are great? Trust me and stay tuned!

Where is the top of the mountain?

Sep 21
2009

Some days are like this.
And when they are like this I wake up and need to see the top of the mountain.
Just a small opening in the clouds, just a short glimps of the peek, would do fine.
Is it far away, am I heading in the right direction?
To give this struggling in the foothills some perpective…
To make this day’s walk a little easier on the feet and on my mind.

Some days are like this.

Where is the grand plan for World Domination?

Sep 17
2009

I’ve been looking everywhere for the master plan that will make us conquer the world. The secret formula that will make me able to write music straight into everybody’s heart. The harmonies that will mend things broken and bring tears into your eyes from pure emotion.

No, haven’t found it yet, so in the meanwhile we keep working on three new songs, hopefully released to you in the middle of October. Not the stuff for Gods maybe, but pretty good anyway (The best we ever done so far I think).

And if you have a copy of that grand scheme to spare, and if it’s not to expensive, you know where to find us.
