Life at it’s best

The studio in the evening

I went in to the studio yesterday. It was one of those magical early summer evenings.
The air filled with scents of fresh grass and honeysuckle.
A blackbird singing endless melodies to the pale and waning light.
A new song was born I think.
Simple chords to catch the moment.

Life at it’s best.

Exit the dungeon

Apr 04
2010

No dark studios and no music today, it’s all to lovely outside. Sun is shining and it’s warm enough for having a coffee outside.

Closing my eyes towards the sun. Wintery soul is slowly thawing.
Someone is humming a distant melody inside my head.

Miriam Clancy

Miriam Clancy

The Sitting Duck Collection is the new podcasting launch from New Zeelander Alister Jenks. He is trying to bring us some lengthy samples of his musical preferences in a more timeless manner than the usual podcasting format.
We are of course much honoured to be picked as one of the first offerings in his musical smorgasbord (see it here).
Listen to i here:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

And  there are other artist presented that shouldn’t be missed if you never heard them before. Miriam Clancy is one of those. Singer-songwriting at the core but extended into a dreamy soundscape that it’s hard not to like and love.
Not to be missed.

The greatest invention of all times

Nov 19
2009

The studio computer went bad on me tonight, with only one mix to got. So I just let it rest until tomorrow. Maybe it’s in better mood then.
For want of better things to do I dreamt up a new invention. The greatest invention of all times. The grand unified most fabulous Love-o-Meter. Sort of like a metal detector only that it measures the amount of love floating around. Only two controls, a sensitivity dial for trimming to your current needs and mood, and then a three way selector for close, mid and far detection, letting you specify how far away you want love detected or not.

Well, wouldn’t you want one!

And it would probably sell much better than music.

One of those mornings…

Oct 24
2009

Woke up one of these mornings, lacking of sleep as usual, and slightly disoriented (who was I, where was I, did I have a name and so on?), still dark outside. And with all my nerve ends on the outside of my skin.
And as I slowly remembered where I was and who I was my body silently started to scream, “Please, please, please. Love me! In spite of everything else, of who I am”.
One of those mornings when all I needed to know was that I’m loved.
Is that to much to ask?

And what has this to do with music you might ask? Maybe not much, or maybe a lot. Perhaps songs are just like that. Slowly waking up from some subconscious part of my brain, just wanted to be loved for what they are, not what they’re not. Not being perfect, still demanding my attention and my unconditional love. Impossible to resist!

As I said, one of those mornings… and one of those songs…

Where is the top of the mountain?

Sep 21
2009

Some days are like this.
And when they are like this I wake up and need to see the top of the mountain.
Just a small opening in the clouds, just a short glimps of the peek, would do fine.
Is it far away, am I heading in the right direction?
To give this struggling in the foothills some perpective…
To make this day’s walk a little easier on the feet and on my mind.

Some days are like this.

Where is the grand plan for World Domination?

Sep 17
2009

I’ve been looking everywhere for the master plan that will make us conquer the world. The secret formula that will make me able to write music straight into everybody’s heart. The harmonies that will mend things broken and bring tears into your eyes from pure emotion.

No, haven’t found it yet, so in the meanwhile we keep working on three new songs, hopefully released to you in the middle of October. Not the stuff for Gods maybe, but pretty good anyway (The best we ever done so far I think).

And if you have a copy of that grand scheme to spare, and if it’s not to expensive, you know where to find us.
